Vampires usually experience the Awakening in early adolescence. A few, such as me, started in early childhood, and very few also have their awakening in their late teens. I have read that the awakening does not come in spurts, but only once. That is untrue for some of us. Mine did.

The Awakening is when it starts to become obvious that there is “something different about me”, sunlight and other lights, such as fluorescent, become less tolerable, the craving for human blood begins, certain “psychic” gifts may become apparent and more be added as time goes on, being awake at night rather than the daytime becomes more comfortable, the need for life energy from others is more and more apparent. Our very strong feelings have to be dealt with as well. With adolescence, there is so much already going on with hormonal and body changes. It is amplified when one is a vampire! When the vampire becomes more sensitive to life energy within and in others as well as changes that occur in the spiritual realm that affect the physical realm, there are energy shifts and surges to adjust to as well.

This is usually a very confusing and difficult time, especially for a teenager, so it is important if a teenager starts to suspect s/he is a vampire that trustworthy, safe help comes from a mentor, usually an Elder in the Community, who is willing to be a guide. No one can tell you that you are a vampire. Vampires can read one another’s’ energy signatures, some can see it in the eyes, some are gifted in seeing the difference in aura colours. However, it is something that the individual has to come to understand on their own and no responsible vampire will tell you that you are definitely a vampire when you are not ready for it anyway. Being a vampire is not easy. It is not horrible, of course, but there are obvious adjustments that have to occur within the mind (acceptance), lifestyle changes that are necessary, or having to live amongst mundanes in ways that are not obvious. It does become easier to adjust to as time goes on.
