There was always something very magickal and alluring about the vampires of fiction. So much so, in fact, that more than often than we would like, we are approached with the wish of being vampires or asked how to become one. If it were fictional vampires they wanted to become, there is no way it would be possible. The vampires of fiction are just that: fiction. However, one can not become a vampire anyway at all unless one is born with the predisposition and eventually develops as a vampire.

The question as to whether or not one can become (be “turned”) is a hot topic within the real vampire culture. I have never met one who is an authentic “turned” person. I was born what I am and those whom I have met whom are real vampires were born with the condition  or “state of being” of vampirism. We call it a “condition” for a lack of better terminology. When we use the term “condition” we are not saying that we have a disease. It is however, something which tends to affect us physically in various ways as not all vampires are the same.

Fiction: What We Are Not

“White Wolf” puts out some reality within the fiction, but real vampires know to tell the difference. From me, you won't get bullshit, because that defeats my purpose. Will I tell you everything? No. There are things that are for vampires and vampires alone and “mundanes” (non vampires) have no business knowing and/or they would not understand anyway.

I wonder how many mundanes are even prepared to accept that we actually exist and that we are not delusional about it? How many mundanes are willing to look at us as simply a different species or a hybrid species of human, and not be so afraid that “witch hunts” start all over the place? People do have the tendency to fear what they do not understand. Yes, there are psychopaths amongst vampires, just as there are amongst mundanes, but vampires are a minority in society also. We are far less dangerous to mundanes than what one may think.

Anyone who goes about killing people and/or peoples’ pets in order to drink their blood or in order to perform a religious sacrifice of any kind is a psychopath or a sociopath and I think I can safely say that I am speaking on behalf of the whole Vampire Community in this: Stop saying that you are a vampire! In identifying as a vampire, you are giving a false impression of the term “vampire” to the news and documentary media and society. We law abiding citizens of the real vampire Community are fed up with this as these behaviours do not reflect who or what we are about.

Most of us are very grateful for willing donors and we do not take much blood from them at all. The most I have heard of a vampire drinking is at least one shot glass full. There may be some who take more. I do not. Many take far less than that! People give more than that for blood banks! Also, there are those of us who feed off of Energy/Chi, but not on blood at all. Some of us need both.

Safe methods that are sanitary are used for extracting the blood. This website does not go into detail on how to go about feeding if you are a “sang” type. If you are a sang vampire and require such information, there are websites which deal with that subject. Someone with sharp permanent fangs does not use fangs for feeding. There is too much risk of danger to the donor, infection in the wounds, as well as leaving nasty scars on the donor. Some people like scars, but truly, safety is more important as is full adult consent.

Hunters and slayers are far more dangerous than vampires are. I simply refer to them as “crazies with stakes” (more about them further on). Then, there is the scientific community: How many in the scientific world can cope with the knowledge of our existence without turning us into lab rats for experimentation and/or destruction? Mundanes are more dangerous to both vampires and other mundanes than we are!

A real vampire is one who needs the life energy of other entities or from other forces in the universe due to a lack of enough of our own. Without it, we become sick, weak and our "gifts" as vampires are not as effective. The psy/psi vampire takes Energy/Chi from various sources but mostly from humans. The Sanguine vampire takes Energy as it exists in blood. The differences between a so-called emotional vampire (mundane) and a psi vamp is that vampires use the energy from emotions and chi out of need that is not merely psychological.

The difference between real vampires and those that take on the persona via an RPG (role playing game), is that true vampirism is not merely a matter of one's own perspective of oneself. It is deeply entrenched in all we are and affects all we do as well as being inherently physical whether we think we are vampires or not. A role player merely thinks s/he is a vampire and may take on the lifestyle of what they perceive a real vampire living, usually from fictional stories. The persona may even have (for lack of a better term as this is not a disease) the same or similar symptoms as a real vampire has, but this is due to the power of the human psyche to affect the body. A role player may develop photophobia (fear of light not based on any rational diagnosis based on physical reality) rather than that which is "natural" light sensitivity to so many real vampires.

Those Who Are Not Real Vampires

1.      “Kids in Capes: These are young people, who like to dress the part based on fictional characters, but are not vampires, even though some may think of themselves as such.

2.      Lifestylers: These are adults who think and feel they are vampires and act like fictional vampires, having convinced themselves they are vampires. A lifestyler may or may not ingest blood, but if so, it is due to psychological need for it based on what they perceive themselves to be. Usually they have a blood fetish.

3.      Blood Fetishists: people who are sexually aroused by ingesting and/or playing with blood as well as the sight of blood. Usually, if they ingest it, they will feel a tad euphoric as a vampire does, but for reasons other than the actual need a sang vampire has for it. Some vampires actually also are blood fetishists, but real vampires nonetheless.

4.      Role Play Gamers (RPG’ers): Although some vampires play role playing games such as Vampire: The Masquerade, just as anyone plays games, playing the game and becoming so involved in one’s character that one thinks of him/herself as a vampire, does not make that person a vampire.

5.      Goths: Although many vampires are also Goths, not all Goths are vampires! Goths are stereotypically into: wearing a lot of black or only black clothing; may wear heavy black eye make-up and/or lipstick; may wear white foundation; may dye their hair black or mixed black shades or a variety of bright colours humans are not born with; may bleach hair out; listen to anything from classical to death metal, but usually “goth” and other alternative genres, many into wearing a lot of jewelry, having tattoos and several body piercings. Any of these listed do not make one a Goth in and of itself. There is also a whole mind set that goes with. People may do any of these things and not be Goth as well.

6.      Delusional: These think they are vampires due to mental illness. Although vampires may have mental and/or emotional problems, they are real vampires nonetheless.

7.      Renfield’s Syndrome: Someone with this problem needs counseling fast. Usually this is found in adolescent people and it involves cutting oneself up and drinking ones own blood due to emotional problems they cannot handle and they take it out on themselves. These people are “cutters” and usually have many scars on their arms and/or various other places from self-cutting. If you have a problem such as described here, please seek medical help and counseling immediately! Please do not come to our forum with these issues.
